Bridging Achievements of the Past with visions of Tomorrow
Thinking systemically to advocate the strengths of indigenous and scientific knowledge.
From Stuttgart to the World…
A traditional centre for innovation becomes a thriving force for the future life of humans and nature.
Indigenous peoples safeguard about 80% of global biodiversity. They have highly specific knowledge about local natural systems and they pass practices for environmental protection from generation to generation. The key idea of a life “in harmony with nature” is picked up in the work of IMIK. We work for indigenous knowledge to be implemented in development projects, for diverse and self-sustaining systems to be maintained, for sensible resource use of resources, and for regions to stay or become climate-resilient and sustainable despite the human activity.
Our services comprise support in the conceptualisation of development projects, consultation about (international) applicable standards, as well as their translation into your project, analysis and evaluation of participatory structures and the success in including indigenous peoples in all project phases, primary research (also project-specific), speeches and workshops.
Current Projects
Indigenous Knowledge in Development Projects
Participation is one of the keywords in modern development aid, but it often comes short. We evaluate development projects and help to find a way to not only hear but include local voices, understand their message, and fit it into the project design.
Indigenous Knowledge Database
Wikipedia’s “radical participation” approach is turning the scientific knowledge system upside down, yet it has so far failed to shake off Western dominance. This project aims to change the system profoundly and sustainably, to provide the foundation of an application of and scholarly work on indigenous knowledge.
