The Institute for Modern Indigenous Knowledge was established in 2021 as a response to the gap of indigenous peoples’ knowledge representation in most Western development projects. Indigenous peoples are experts in the management of local ecosystems and biodiversity, and it is crucial to hear their voice equally to scientists or other external consultants.
IMIK works on Interdisciplinary Solutions to close the gap between Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and Modern Scientific Knowledge Systems (MSKS). We enrich scientific methods with new approaches to test, approve and transfer knowledge. We aim to find systemic and systematic strategies to combat climate change and resource mismanagement. We want to create solutions that comprise adaptive systems rather than final products.
Our sound system-thinking approach makes us unique. We aim for solutions that reduce existing dominances to find leverage points and self-enforcing mechanisms. We unleash the power of collaborative knowledge to advocate for a resilient planet and sustainable development worldwide.
Combining both knowledge systems and creating a base for sustainable changes is our vision for the coming years.
